Meet the Faces Behind DK Security: Thao Tran

That’s why we’re excited to re-introduce our Employee Spotlight series, where we shine a spotlight on the amazing individuals who make DK Security what it is today!
Have you ever wondered what your fellow employees are passionate about outside of work? Well, wonder no more! Through this series, we’ll be getting to know the diverse hobbies, talents, and interests of the individuals that make up our DK Security family!
Recently, we sat down for a Q & A with Thao Tran, a Recruiter in the Grand Rapids office.

Q: How long have you been at DK Security & what do you do here?
Just over one year.
Q: What is your favorite part of working at DK?
The environment. It’s serious and we get our work done, but we also take small breaks to get to know one another.
Q: Do you have a favorite memory/ time at work?
Yes! We had a potluck in the office about three weeks after I started. Those three weeks included two weeks of work, and one week of a (pre-planned) vacation to Hawaii.
Before the lunch began, everyone introduced themselves, stating what our job was & how long we had worked at DK.
When my turn came, I said that I had worked for DK for three weeks, and Sindia jokingly said, “Thao, your week in Hawaii doesn’t count”.
I really appreciated that. It showed me that at DK Security, we get our work done, but we can be playful, too.
Q: When you’re not at work, what are you doing?
I am a booking agent for the Lotus Boyz, West Michigan’s premier lion dance group. They perform at many different cultural festivals, businesses, and celebrations in the area, and even danced in our Grand Rapids office at the beginning of last year. I like working with them because it’s a fun way to share my culture with others.
I also hold some volunteer positions. I am a Wish Granter for the Make-a-Wish Foundation in West Michigan, most recently being placed with a family who speaks Vietnamese, as I’m the only Wish Granter fluent in Vietnamese. In total, I have helped grant 5 wishes, and I am working on more! I am also on the Board of JAFAX, the Japanese Animation, Film and Art Expo that takes place in Grand Rapids in June.
When I have free time, I play video games with my best friend who lives in New York. Currently, our favorite game is Don’t Starve Together.
Q: Is there anything else we should know about you?
Yes! 2 things:
1. I worked at Disney World as part of my schooling.
2. I love to travel.
Working at Disney was amazing; it is actually more fun to me than visiting Disney World because I really had an opportunity to give our guests the experience of a lifetime!
I have been able to travel to many wonderful places, my favorite being Hawaii. This year, I am looking forward to going to New Zealand for a friend’s wedding!
